Eric's Origin Story

"I was first exposed to the healthcare system in 5th grade, when I had surgery for the first time for a rare bone condition called Multiple Hereditary Exostosis (MHE).  This is when I learned that medicine does not function with just the surgeon; a whole team of nurses, technologists and sales representatives are needed for patient care.  But it's not just the people.  It is also technology.  I was fascinated by CT scans, anesthesia and implants, and knew early on I wanted to pursue a career in biomedical engineering.  I took every opportunity I could to gain exposure to medicine, volunteering at the hospital and working in the operating room during my summer breaks from college.  It is the relationships I made with the surgeons and sales representatives at Lutheran General Hospital that led me to my first job as an engineer with Medtronic Sofamor Danek."
